and can guide you with personal experience. Each trip is individually priced

one: ATHERTON TABLELANDS
AND UNDARA LAVA TUBES
- Duration: 4 days or more
- Accommodation: historic hotels and camping
|
| Day one:Your
Tablelands experience begins with exploring Lake Tinaroo, famous for bird
and wildlife viewing including platypus. We’ll lunch at my favourite lunch
stop, Pensini’s. Those interested may fish for the popular barramundi and
redclaw. A verdant rainforest walk among giant 600 year old Kauri pines
will be enjoyed at Lake Barrine, a pristine volcanic crater lake. We can
join the crew for a boat ride around the lake where we'll see lots of wildlife
and the huge silver back eels. We'll spend the night in an historic hotel. |
Day two:After enjoying pastoral views of
dairy farms, tropical orchards and cropping farms, we'll head southwest
for Undara. Located within a National Park this region has a real outback
feel. 190,000 years ago when the volcanoes were active, spectacular lava
tubes were formed here. We'll tour through a lava tube and spend the night
here either in a permanent tent or in one of the old converted railway
carriages. Feel like breakfast with the birds?
Day three: Let's explore the beautiful Savannah
land, keep your eye out for emus and wedgetail eagles! We'll head out for
Cobald Gorge for a boat cruise up the gorge (watch for crocodile slides),
pass through some charming historic towns and spend a |
 |
night
at a remote cattle station and enjoy a refreshing swim in the hot springs.
Day four:After a leisurely breakfast we'll
head for home. This area just resonates with the sights and sounds of wild
Australia (look under trees for resting 'roos.) There's time for taking
photographs and having a closer look at the sites we passed earlier. We
may venture off anywhere that stimulates your interest. Watch the landscape
change from outback ochre to rainforest green as we travel back to your
accommodation. This trip will cover about 1000 kilometers. |

two: CAPE YORK PENINSULA
SAFARI
- Duration: Minimum 14 days,
longer is better
- Accommodation: camping and/or lodges
After spending the night at
KURANDA BED & BREAKFAST, packing the vehicle
and studying maps over dinner, we'll set off at first light. We'll be in
Cooktown for lunch and a look around this historic town. We'll journey
to Lakefield National Park, 537,000 hectares of pristine wilderness, The
first night we'll enjoy a billabong campsite and watch the abundant waterfowl:
brolgas, jabaru, magpie geese and ducks. |
 |
The
remote splendour of the Cape means take-it easy- driving with time to enjoy
the wildlife, unusual wildflowers and fascinating rugged landscapes. Watch
for kangaroos and crocodiles. Indulge in some fishing. Rare birds such
as the Palm Cockatoo, the Eclectus Parrot and for the lucky, the Golden
shouldered Parrot can be viewed in the wild north. Five National Parks
adorn Cape York and with sufficient time may be visited. |
|
A boat trip to remote Thursday and Horn Islands is highly recommend. These
unique islands are full of history and character. Horn Island was a major
base during World War II, has a great museum and lots of tales. Cape York
resonates with pioneering history and hardship. The relics of the past...old
mining machinery and towns: and the drama of past events will be shared
with you as we travel through this remarkable area. This trip will cover
about 3000 kilometers or more. |
