Hello and welcome to the most jam-packed edition of Novo yet. All our departments are full of quality writing, and we see the debut of two new columns and four new writers! One of the striking things about this month's issue, is the common theme of love running through all our fictional pieces. Whether it be sisterly (Abbigale) or motherly love (It's Not Too Late), close friendship (Stephanie), or the desire for it (Believe in Yourself); jealousy (Suburbs) or the absence of love (The End), all six pieces deal in some way with the nature of love. Is the large amount of such stories symbolic of a cry for love from the young of the world? Is it systematic of our generation's serial monogamy? Is it part of Generation X and Y's struggle to deal with dysfunctional upbringing? No, I think its just a coincidence, but an interesting one at any rate. If anything, it demonstrates the increased maturity of today's youth, that teenagers can deal with such complex topics as euthanasia (Abbigale), parental death (It's Not Too late) and popularity (perhaps the most complex love of all - Believe in Yourself) so well. I congratulate all our fictional writers for the originality and maturity that all their work shows. That's not to say Novo's other writers aren't doing exceptionally well also. Our Entertainment section has got a huge boost thanks to the inclusion of 'Cheap and Cheerful' and 'Budget Fun' - two columns that should prevent young people (in Canberra at least) complaining that there is nothing fun to do that doesn't cost large amounts of money. I would also encourage musicians, bands, DJs, ravers and venues to aid in the entertainment of Australia's youth, by letting Novo's Gig Guide know of upcoming events in any Australian town, city or state. For the second month in a row, readers are spared a costello-editorial-rant, but if you feel like blowing your top over something that you have read in Novo, or a recent current affairs/youth issue, why not contribute to our new letters to the editor page! Cheers Sean Costello
