Tips

This is a traditional vegies soup in East Java. West Java also have similar soup only they do not use belachan.

As I grown up in East Java, I think this soup have much more taste as it use more spices.

Best served with:
Empal/Fried Beef, Empal Suwir/Shredded Beef, Sambal Terasi/Belachan chilli sauce and of course with warm steam rice.

Suitable:
For LUNCH, DINNER.

 

SAYUR ASEM
(VEGETABLE SOUR SOUP)

Method category: Boiling (Rebus)

Ingredients/ Bahan:
1 Zuchini, sliced (Krai / zuchini, iris)
200 gr Snake bean, cut into 1-2cm long (Kacang panjang, potong 1-2cm)
3-4 Sweet corn, cut into 4 horizontally (jagung manis, potong bagi 4)
2  Tomato, diced (tomat iris dadu)
1/4 Cabbage, diced (Kubis, dipotong kotak2)
3-4 cups Boiling water/Beef stock (Air mendidih/kuah daging rebus)
50 gr Peeled Prawn (Udang kupas)

Spices/Bumbu:
4 cloves Garlic (bawang putih)
2 French Shallots (Bawang merah)
1 tsp Fresh Tamarind (Asem jawa)
1 tsp Belachan (terasi udang)
1 tsp Sugar (Gula pasir)
1/2 tsp Salt (Garam)
 
 

 

Directions/Cara membuat:
English:
1. Ground all the spices.
2. Boil all the vegies in the boiling water/beef stock.
3. Pour all the ground spices and let it back to boil again.
4. Serve with steam rice, shredded beef, fried beef and sambal terasi.

Indonesian:

1. Haluskan semua bumbu.
2. Rebus semua sayuran.
3. Campurkan semua bumbu yang sudah dihaluskan, rebus hingga mendidih.
4. Sajikan dengan nasi putih hangat, empal suwir atau empal goreng, dan sambal terasi.
