William Hockey was born on 18 May 1766 in Montacute, Somerset, England as the first child of William Hockey and Susannah Chant. He had six siblings, namely: Susanna, James, Luke, Mehitabeel, Absalom, and Absalom.

William Hockey married Catherine Bool, his first cousin, daughter of James Benjamin Bool and Grace Hockey

William Hockey and Catherine Bool had the following children:

2. Susannah Hockey was born on 16 August 1789 in Montacute, Somerset, England. She died in 1795.

4. Jesse Hockey was born in 1797 in Montacute, Somerset. He died on 12 October 1878 in Cambewarra, New South Wales, Australia.

5. Joel Hockey was born in 1801 in Somerset, England. He died in 1802.

6. Joseph Hockey was born in 1803 in Henstridge, Somerset, England. He died on 01 April 1886 in Somerset, England.

7. John Hockey was born on 12 September 1803 in Somerset, England. He married Mary Lovell in 1824 in St Catherine's, Montacute, Somerset. He married Mary Steel on 10 August 1839 in Dapto, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. He married Mary McGowen in New South Wales. He died on 13 October 1878 in Cambewarra, New South Wales.

8. Joel Hockey was born in 1808 in Somerset, England. He died on 01 October 1862 in Somerset, England.

9. Abigail Hockey was born in 1811 in Monacute Abbey, Somerset, England. She died on 01 October 1876 in Yeovil, Somerset, England.
