Thomas Henry Langley was born in 1869[1] in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia as the sixth child of Charles Langley and Emma Shergold. He had twelve siblings, namely: Clara Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary Ann, Charles Henry, Emma, William, Amy Jane, John Charles, George, Arthur, Eva, and Robert.

 

In his 20’s he was employed as a carpenter.

 

When he was 30, He married Jane White, daughter of Wiliam Henry White and Mary Ann Sefton, in 1899[2] in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia.

 

Thomas Henry Langley and Jane White had the following children:

 

1. Charles Henry Langley was born in 1900 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. He married Mary Josephine Cronan in 1927 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. Charles died on 28 March 1972 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia.

 

2. Elsie May Langley was born in 1904 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. She married Arthur Leslie Saunders in 1929 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia. Elsie died in 1938 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia.

 

3. Leslie Langley was born in 1905 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. He married Eunice Beatrice Tyler in 1947 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia. Leslie died in 1970 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia.

 

4. Thomas Langley was born in 1907 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. He died in 1915 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia.

 

5. Nora Jane Langley was born in 1909 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. She married Thomas Clive Wright in 1946 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia. Nora died on 02 October 1993 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia.

 

6. Mavis Doreen Langley was born on 22 September 1924 in New South Wales, Australia. She married Victor Athol Warner in 1946 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia. Mavis died on 29 April 2008 in Queensland, Australia.

 

They moved to Dunoon where Thomas opened a hairdressing business for a while, then went into farming, before he became a sanitary contractor to the Ballina Municipal Council.

 

Thomas died in 1943[3] in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia, age 74.

 

Jane died on 20 April 1968 in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia, age 88.

A charge against Thomas Henry Langley, sanitary contractor, of Ballina, that he had failed thoroughly to cleanse certain utensils was dismissed. Mr. A. L. H. Knapp, an officer of the Public Health Department, prosecuted on behalf of the Health Department, and Mr. R. S. Best, of A. R. Best and Son, appeared for Langley.

MR. THOMAS HENRY LANGLEY - BALLINA, Tuesday.-A former well-known resident of Lismore,

Mr. Thomas Henry Langley, died at his residence in Burnett-street, Ballina, this afternoon at the age of 74 years. Mr. Lang]ey was born at Kangaroo Valley, South Coast He came to Lismore about 54 years ago and was engaged in carpentering. Later, he moved to Dunoon where he opened a hairdressing business. Relinquishing this business he commenced farming at Teven from where he went to Ballina and was engaged as sanitary contractor to the Ballina Municipal Council. The late Mr. Langley married Miss Jane White, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs H. White, of Lismore, 43 years ago. He is survived by a widow and two sons, Charles (Cowra) and Pte Leslie Langley (A.I.P.). Miss Nora Langley and Miss Mavis Langley (Ballina) are daughters. Six grandchildren survive. Brothers are William (Rukenvale), Jack (South Coast), Arthur (Newcastle), and George (Nowra). Mrs. H. Back (Sydney) and Mrs. A. J. Maxwell (Tweed River) are sisters.

MR. THOMAS HENRY LANGLEY BALLINA, Thursday.-The funeral of Mr. Thomas Henry Langley, who died at his residence, Burnett street, Ballina, on Tuesday, took place to the Church of England portion of East Ballina cemetery today. A service was held at the residence, and later at the graveside, by the Rev. W. Burvill. Pall-bearers were Messrs. G. D. Stuart, M. Howard, H. Fletcher, C. Langley (brother), L. Saunders (son-in-law) and R. Brawn. The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Charles Henderson, Ballina.
