Mary Lovell was born in 1807 in Somerset, England.

When she was 17, She married John Hockey,son of William Hockey and Catherine Bool, in 1824 in St Catherine's, Montacute, Somerset, England.

John Hockey and Mary Lovell had the following children:

1. Samuel Hockey was born on 29 April 1824 in Montacute, Somerset, England. He married Mary Ann Ryan on 26 March 1848 in Dapto, New South Wales. He died on 16 December 1905 in Windellama, New South Wales.

2. Enos Hockey was born in 1826 in Somerset, England. He died on 10 September 1889 in New South Wales.

3. Charles Hockey was born on 29 April 1829 in Somerset, England. He died on 15 April 1841 in Montacute, Somerset, England.

In 1830, John was convicted of stealing fowl. He was sentenced to 14 years in Australia for his crime. Mary stayed in England with their three sons. She would never see John again.

Mary died on 28 February 1835 in Somerset, England, age 28.
