Mary Elsie May Ross was born in 1918 as the third child of Alexander Herbert Ross
and Mary Emma May Hockey. She had three siblings, namely: William Charles, Alexander
Henry Percy, and Spencer.
When she was 20, Mary married John Richard Sampson, son of Samuel Sampson and Ethel
Lillian Woolley, in 1938[1] in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Mary was known as Polly, and John was known as Dick.
John Richard Sampson and Mary Elsie May Ross had the following children:
1. Denny Sampson
John died on 7 June 1994 in Queensland, Australia, age 80.
Mary died on 29 August 1994 in Queensland, Australia, age 76.

Blazing Car Runs Down Hill with flames and smoke pouring from its engine and floor-board,
a tourer car ran backwards for 20 yards down a hill in Trout's Road, Everton Park
on Friday night, and stopped at the bottom against a large stump. The driver, John
Sampson, of Boundary Street. Spring Hill, and his companion, John Hand, of the same
address, had jumped out when the fire started. The engine had seized when going up
the hill, and on the third attempt to start, the car backfired and caught fire. The
car, which was insured, was destroyed.
