Mary Ann Ryan was born on 10 March 1830[1]  in Parramatta, New South Wales as the first child of Daniel Ryan and Mary Anne Knowland.

When she was 18, Mary married Samuel Hockey, son of John Hockey and Mary Lovell, on 26 March 1848[2] in Dapto, New South Wales.

Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan had the following children:

1.  Eneas Hockey was born on 17 February 1849 in Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia. He died in December 1861 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

2. Charles Hockey was born on 01 July 1850 in Jamberoo, Kiama, Shoalhaven, New South Wales. He married Mary Ann Langley in 1882 in Kangaroo Mount, near Berry, New South Wales, Australia. Charles died on 5 October 1932 in 'Eulabil', Yorkleigh, near Casino, New South Wales, Australia.

3. Samuel Hockey was born on 05 February 1852 in Illawarra, New South Wales, Australia. He married Sarah Louisa Hockey in 1876 in Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia. Samuel died on 10 September 1923 in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia.

4. John Hockey was born on 16 November 1853 in Albion Park, New South Wales, Australia. He married Frances E Perkins in 1882 in Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia. John died on 02 June 1926 in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia.

5. Mary Hockey was born on 03 September 1855 in Albion Park, New South Wales, Australia. She married John Maynard McKane on 10 February 1876 in Windellama, New South Wales, Australia. Mary died on 26 May 1934 in Nowra, New South Wales, Australia.

DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT - At 11 on Tuesday night Mrs. Mary Hockey died at her residence, Isaac's-Gully, near Windellama. She was 86 years of age, and had resided in the district between 40 and 50 years. Her husband predeaceased her by 10 years. She leaves a family of two daughters and eight sons. The daughters are Mrs. McKane, of Nowra, and Mrs. Hockey, of Murwillumbah, Tweed River. The sons are Charles, of Casino, Samuel and John, Windellama, George, of Shellharbour, Luke, of Goulburn, David, of Windellama, Alfred, of Nerriga, and Albert, of Windellama. Mrs. Hockey's deathl was unexpected, but was apparently due to old age. As no medical man had attended a report was made to the Coroner (Mr. H. O'Brien), who gave the necessary certificate dispensing with an inquiry.
