Mary Anne Knowland was born on 05 November 1809[1] in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia as the first child of David Knowland and Mary Smith.

When she was 17, She married Daniel Ryan, son of Malachy Ryan and Mary Eleanor, in 1827[2] in St Peter's Church of England, Campbelltown, New South Wales.

Daniel Ryan and Mary Anne Knowland had the following children:

1. Mary Ann Ryan was born on 10 March 1830 in Parramatta, New South Wales. She married Samuel Hockey on 26 March 1848 in Dapto, New South Wales. She died on 25 October 1915 in Windellama, New South Wales.

Mary died in 1879[3] in Braidwood, New South Wales, age 69.
