



Maria Elisabeth Koppen was born in 1824 in Germany as the first child of Joachim Koppen.
When she was 28, She married Christian Friedrich Borchardt, son of Christian Friedrich Borchardt and Anne Elisabeth Stolzenfeld, in 1852 in Claushagen, Germany.
When she was 40, Maria , Christian and family sailed from Hamburg on 7th November, 1863 on the ship ‘The Johann Cesar’, but because of bad weather they went into Cowes on the Isle of Wight for shelter and to obtain further provisions, and didn't leave there until 18th December, 1863. There was 231 German immigrants on board and they arrived in Moreton Bay on 25th April, 1864. No records survive of passenger lists for this voyage. (click here for source)
Christian Friedrich Borchardt and Maria Elisabeth Koppen had the following children:
1. Mary Hannah Dora Borchardt was born in 1857 in Uckermark, Brandenburg, Germany. She married Peter Vock on 14 April 1880. She married Daniel Haughton in 1903. She died on 18 September 1935 in Queensland.
2. Ernest Borchardt was born in 1859. He died in 1926.
3. Frederick William Borchardt was born on 01 October 1863 in Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg, Prussia, Germany. He married Annie Frederika Schmierer on 24 February 1882 in Gayndah, Queensland. He died on 23 December 1929 in Gayndah, Queensland.
4. Hannah Frederica Louisa Borchardt was born on 05 July 1867 in Rawbelle, Queensland. She married Johann Jacob Horn in 1884 in Queensland. She died on 08 December 1952 in Eidsvold, Queensland.
Maria died on 30 May 1896[1] in Gayndah, Queensland, Australia.
