Luke Hockey was born on 09 December 1862[1] in Windellama, New South Wales, Australia as the ninth child of Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan. He had thirteen siblings, namely: Eneas, Charles, Samuel, John, Mary, George Daniel, Henry Perceval, Eliza Jane, David, Margaret Ellen, Alfred Enos, Albert James, and Sarah Anne.

 

When he was 22, He married Matilda Harmer, daughter of Edwin Harmer and Caroline, in 1885[2] in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia.

 

Luke Hockey and Matilda Harmer had the following children:

 

1. George Henry Hockey was born in 1880. He married Margaret Lavina Hazelton in 1907 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. George died on 27 January 1908 in Hillgrove, New South Wales, Australia.

 

2. Florence Amelia Hockey was born on 17 January 1886 in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia. She married Lyster Richard Waters in 1908 in Bowral, New South Wales, Australia. Florence died on 06 November 1952 in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia.

 

3. Sydney Walter Hockey was born in 1888 in Braidwood, New South Wales, Australia. He married Florence Adeline Murry in 1916 in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia. Sydney died in 1955 in Newtown, New South Wales, Australia.

MR. LUKE HOCKEY - The death occurred at a Goulburn hospital on Wednesday morning of Mr Luke Hockey, aged 79, late of 10 Bruce Street, Goulburn. He had been ailing for the past 12 months. A native of Windellama, the late Mr. Hockey had resided in the Goulburn district practically the whole of his life and was very well-kown and respected. In his younger days he was a gold prospector and met with some success in this sphere of activity at various times. Mr. Hockey had worked on Gundary, Tirranna and Karingaroo properties.

Besides his wife he leaves three daughters Ruth (Mrs. Gale), Florrie (Mrs Waters) and Elsie (Mrs. Kelly), all of whom reside in Goulburn, and two sons, Sid (Auburn) and Alfred (A.I.F. Brisbane). He also leaves three brothers, Charles (Nowra). Albert and Alfred (Windellama). There are also 15 surviving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral left Craig's Parlours, Goldsmith Street, this afternoon at 1 o'olock for the Church of England portion of the General Cemetery.
