Joseph Diflo was born on 26 May 1856[1] as the second child of Philipp Andreas Andrew Diflo and Julianna Lohr. He had six siblings, namely: Maria, Mary, Michael Anton, Anne, Rosa, and John Andrew.

Joseph Diflo was baptised by Father McGinty of Ipswich Catholic parish on 16 December 1857 with Donald McLennan as witness. Joseph was baptised during one of Father McGinty’s extended bush tours to minister to his far-flung congregation. The lack of a church and the immediate opportunity to baptise their children must surely have been one of the major frustrations and difficulties for the Dorfprozelten Catholics. At home it was usual for the child to be baptised on the day of its birth if born in the morning or on the next morning if an afternoon or night birth. To have to wait for many months, and sometimes years, must have been very difficult and it seems likely they’d have compromised by baptising the child themselves as an interim measure.

When he was 22, Joseph married Sophia Charlotte Schulze, daughter of Charles Frederick Schulze and Gertrude Hilberg, in 1878[2] in Queensland, Australia.

Joseph was a farmer at Charlton.

1. Joseph Diflo was born in 1879 in Queensland, Australia. He married Alice Amelia Weise in 1904 in Queensland, Australia. Joseph died in 1960 in Queensland, Australia.

2. Sophia Annie Diflo was born in 1880 in Queensland, Australia. She married John Joseph Sharpley in 1903 in Queensland, Australia. Sophia died on 11 April 1965 in Queensland, Australia.

3. Charlotte Diflo was born in 1884 in Queensland, Australia. She married John Christian Dorries in 1901 in Queensland, Australia. Charlotte died in 1939 in Queensland, Australia.

4. Henry James Diflo was born in 1887 in Queensland, Australia. He died in 1908 in Queensland, Australia.

5. Arthur Diflo was born in 1888 in Queensland, Australia. He married Margareta Moten in 1918 in Queensland, Australia. Arthur died in 1963 in Queensland, Australia.

6. Albert Venn Diflo was born in 1892 in Queensland, Australia. He married Mary Josephine Ethel Range in 1916 in Queensland, Australia. Albert died in 1969 in Queensland, Australia.

7. Julia Josephine Diflo was born in 1893 in Queensland, Australia. She married Martin Julius Peter Rohde in 1911 in Queensland, Australia. Julia died in 1949 in Queensland, Australia.

8. Isabella Josephine Diflo was born in 1897 in Queensland, Australia. She died in 1977 in Queensland, Australia.

Joseph died on 6 March 1925[3] in Queensland, Australia, age 69. He left an estate of £485/12/4 to his wife Sophia.

Sophia died on 4 January 1932[4] in Queensland, Australia, age 71.
