Henry Perceval Hockey was born on 26 December 1858[1] in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia as the seventh child of Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan. He had thirteen siblings, namely: Eneas, Charles, Samuel, John, Mary, George Daniel, Eliza Jane, Luke, David, Margaret Ellen, Alfred Enos, Albert James, and Sarah Anne.

In January 1881, there was a number of cases of Typhoid Fever in Mullengullenga, New South Wales, some cases fatal. Herny was a victim.

Henry died on 12 January 1881[2] in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, age 22. His cause of death was Typhoid Fever.

Typhoid Fever. - Several cases of this malady have occurred in the neighbourhood of this village, particularly so in Mullengullenga, during the present month. I am sorry to say one of the cases ended fatally on Saturday last in the death Mr. Walter Goodchild, a young man of great promise and a general favourite among his companions, particularly so on the cricket-field, where he gene- rally took first place. Great sympathy is expressed for Mrs. Goodchild, who in a remarkably short time has lost her husband and two sons.

Probably at the time I am writing these notes another case of fever has terminated fatally, that of Henry Hockey. The doctor gave the case up as hopeless on Monday evening. Mrs. Roberts senior of Bronti is also dangerously ill and is not expected to recover.

Since writing the above I have heard that Henry Hockey died last night, January 12.
