George Daniel Hockey was born on 26 May 1857[1] in Albion Park, New South Wales, Australia1 as the sixth child of Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan. He had thirteen siblings, namely: Eneas, Charles, Samuel, John, Mary, Henry Perceval, Eliza Jane, Lewis Walter Luke, David, Margaret Ellen, Alfred Enos, Albert James, and Sarah Anne.

 

When he was 17, George married Henrietta Eggleton, daughter of Peter Eggleton and Lena, in 1875[2] in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

 

George Daniel Hockey and Henrietta Eggleton had the following children:

 

1. Samuel William Hockey was born in 1878 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. He married Alma E. Anderson in 1911 in Maclean, New South Wales, Australia. Samuel died in 1956 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

 

2. Albert George Hockey was born in 1879 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. He married Martha L Patterson in 1904 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Albert died in 1961 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

 

3. Ethel May Hockey was born in 1882 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. She married Peter Beacham in 1900 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Ethel died in 1950 in Bowraville, New South Wales, Australia.

 

4. Herbert Henry Hockey was born in 1886 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. He married Florence M Goffey in 1909 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. Herbert died in 1951 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

 

5. Walter Leonard Hockey was born in 1889 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. He married Lillian Amelia Butterworth in 1915 in Petersham, New South Wales, Australia. Walter died in 1977 in New South Wales, Australia.

 

6. John W Hockey was born in 1892 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. He married Ellen E Boxell in 1920 in Macksville, New South Wales, Australia. John died in 1928 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

 

 

Henrietta died on 14 January 1933[3] in Shellharbour, New South Wales, age 81.

 

George died on 16 January 1938[3] in Shellharbour, New South Wales, age 80.

Obituary - MRS HENRIETTA HOCKEY 81 YEARS. The death occurred on Saturday last at her residence at Shellharbour of Mrs. Henrietta Hockey, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 81. She was born at Shellharbour where she lived all her life, the daughter of the late Stephen Egglestone, and married Mr. George Daniel Hockey, who was for many years a fisherman, being followed in this occupations by his sons, Messrs. Samuel, Albert, Herbert and Leonard. Mr Samuel Hockey is Fisheries inspector for the district. Mrs. Hockey is survived also by her husband, and two daughters, Mrs. Beacham, of Macksville, and Mrs. George Inskip, of Shellharbour. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon at the Church of England cemetery, Shellharbour, the Rector (Rev. W. J. Reboul officiating.)

Obituary - MR. GEORGE D. HOCKEY-81 YEARS. One of the oldest and most highly respected residents or Shellharbour passed away on Sunday morning at his home in the person of Mr. George D. Hockey, at the age of 81. He had lived in Shellharbour practically the whole of his life, following his occupation as a fisherman, and it was only during the last two or three months that he had been stricken with illness.

A kindly old man, full of reminiscences of the past, he was indeed an old identity of Shellharliour, and sympathy is extdnded to his four sons Messrs. Leonard, Herbert and Albert Hockey, of Shellharbour, Mr. Samuel Hockey, Fisheries Inspector, Sydney and his two daughters, Mrs. Hockey predeceased him some two years ago. The funeral took place on Monday at the Church of England Cemetery, Shellharbour, the Rector, the Rev. A. H Edwards, officiating.
