OBITUARY - Our Gayndah correspondent writes the death took place, at the Gayndah General Hospital on Tuesday evening, of Mr. Earnest Borchardt, one of the pioneers of the Burnett District, at the age of 86 years. Deceased contracted a chill a few weeks ago from which he succumbed. He is survived by a widow and one brother, for whom great sympathy is felt.

Deceased arrived in Australia in the,60's, accompanied by his parents, who settled in this district. He was employed at Mount Perry and Eidsvold for different periods, and engaged in various pursuits, particularly mining. It is a well-kuown fact that during his sojourn in those eentres he walked from each place to Gayndah to attend meetings of the M.U.I.O.O.F. Lodge of which he had been a very ardent member.

He eventually took up his residence at Gayndah, and had lived there for many years. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to the Gayndah Cemetery, and was largely attended by members of the Odd-fellows' Lodge, relatives and friends The Rev. Father Thompson officiated at the graveside, after which the Odd- follows' burial service was conducted by Bro. E. Reid.
