
Eneas Hockey was born on 17 February 1849[1] in Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia as the first child of Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan. He had thirteen siblings, namely: Charles, Samuel, John, Mary, George Daniel, Henry Perceval, Eliza Jane, Lewis Walter Luke, David, Margaret Ellen, Alfred Enos, Albert James, and Sarah Anne.
Eneas was endeavoring to lead a restless horse up a hill and had the halter round
his hand, and a loop of the halter hung from his hand. It caught on a stump, and
his right hand fingers were literally cut off, remaining just hanging by the skin.
He suffered from lock-
Eneas died in December 1861[2] in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia, age 11.

An accident of a singular nature occured to a lad named Hockey last week, son of
Samuel Hockey, a resident upon the Yellow Rock Creek. The lad was endeavoring to
lead a restive horse up a hill near Councillor Mc Gill's residene. Young Hockey had
the halter round his hand, and a loop of the halter hung from his hand ; by some
means this loop caught in a stump, the result was that the lad's right hand fingers
