Ellen Horrigan was born in 1842[1] in Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia as the first child of James Joseph Horrigan and Hanorah Fitz-Gibbons. She had nine siblings, namely: Cornelius, Thomas J, Mary, Margaret Agnes, Catherine, John, James Edward, Honorah Mary Teresa, and Johanna Marion Josephine.

 

When she was 19, She married George McLean, son of Allen McLean and Isabella Ross, on 24 October 1861[2] in Queensland, Australia.

 

George McLean and Ellen Horrigan had the following children:

 

1. Letitia Mary McLean was born on 09 August 1862 in Queensland, Australia. She died on 09 February 1934 in Esk, Queensland, Australia. She married William James Cavanagh on 17 September 1883 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia.

 

2. George McLean was born on 10 January 1864 in Queensland, Australia. He died on 23 November 1876 in Queensland, Australia.

 

3. Honora Isabella Annie McLean was born on 11 July 1865 in Queensland, Australia. She died on 23 July 1943 in Queensland, Australia. She married George Paul Spencer in 1888 in Queensland, Australia.

 

4. Thomas McLean was born on 04 May 1869 in Queensland, Australia. He died on 28 September 1913 in Queensland, Australia.

 

5. Allan McLean was born in 1871 in Queensland, Australia. He died in 1940 in Queensland, Australia.

On the 23rd December, at Glencoe, Esk, suddenly, George McLean, the beloved husband of Ellen McLean, leaving her and nine children to lament their loss, aged 44 years and 4 months.

Mrs. Ellen McLean, one of the pioneers of the Esk district, where she had resided for over 50 years, died at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. G. Spencer, Toogoolawah, on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased lady, who had attained the age of 84 years was hale and hearty until about a year ago, since when she had been confined to her bed. Her husband, Mr. George McLean, predeceased her 41 years ago. She leaves a family of two daughters-Mrs. W. Cavanagh (Ottaba) and Mrs. G. P. Spencer (Toogoolawah) - and five sons -Messrs James (Esk), Allan (Woodford), Henry (Nanango), Edward (Longreach), and Frank (Linville), and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The interment took place at Esk on Thursday.
