Eliza Jane Hockey was born on 21 April 18611 in Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia as the eighth child of Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan. She had thirteen siblings, namely: Eneas, Charles, Samuel, John, Mary, George Daniel, Henry Perceval, Luke, David, Margaret Ellen, Alfred Enos, Albert James, and Sarah Anne.

John William Savell and Eliza Jane Hockey had no children.

John died on 10 June 1930[2] in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, age 64.

She died on 26 August 1931[3] in Bowral, New South Wales, Australia, age 69.

Mr, John William Savell, aged 64 years, an old identity of Bowral, died in Sydney Hospital on Tuesday last, June 10th. The deceased had lived all his lifetime is this district, in which he had always been highly esteemed and held in high respect. A widow, two brothers and three sisters survive, two of the latter residing on the Richmond River. The funeral at the Bowral general cemetery on Thursday afternoon was largely attended by residents from all parts of the district Mr. W. Savell, of Moss Vale, is a nephew of the deceased.
