David Hockey was born on 15 July 1864[1] in Windellama, New South Wales, Australia as the tenth child of Samuel Hockey and Mary Ann Ryan. He had thirteen siblings, namely: Eneas, Charles, Samuel, John, Mary, George Daniel, Henry Perceval, Eliza Jane, Luke, Margaret Ellen, Alfred Enos, Albert James, and Sarah Anne.  

When he was 56, David married Isabella Ada Briggs, daughter of Clarence William Briggs and Isabella M Scott, in 1921[2] in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia.

David died on 23 June 1923[3] in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, age 58.

Isabella died in 1930[4] in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia, age 68.
