Catherine Horrigan was born in 1852[1] in Maitland, New South Wales, Australia as the sixth child of James Joseph Horrigan and Hanorah Fitz-Gibbons. She had nine siblings, namely: Ellen, Cornelius, Thomas J, Mary, Margaret Agnes, John, James Edward, Honorah Mary Teresa, and Johanna Marion Josephine.

 

When she was 23, She married Francis Patrick McDonough, son of John McDonough and Bridget Ready, in 1875[2] in Queensland, Australia.

 

Francis Patrick McDonough and Catherine Horrigan had the following children:

 

1. James Edward McDonough was born in 1877 in Queensland, Australia. He died in 1958 in Queensland, Australia. He married Beatrice Helena Jemesen in 1935 in Queensland, Australia. He married Mary Broadhurst in 1894 in Queensland, Australia.

 

2. Edmond Lambert McDonough was born in 1880 in Tweed River, New South Wales, Australia. He died in 1962 in Queensland, Australia.

 

3. Frank McDonough was born in 1884 in Tweed River, New South Wales, Australia. He died in 1948 in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia.

 

4. Alice Norah McDonough was born in 1886 in Tweed River, New South Wales, Australia. She married Christopher Alexander McCallum in 1911 in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia. She died in 1962 in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia.

 

5. Amy McDonough was born in 1890 in Queensland, Australia. She married Jack Gow in 1921 in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia. She died in 1948 in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

 

6. Margaret A McDonough was born in 1894 in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia. She died in 1894 in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia.

 

Francis died on 13 December 1925[3] in Murwillumbah,  New South Wales, age 72.

 

Catherine died in 1941[4] in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia, age 89.

OBITUARY Mr. F. P. McDonough - Another Tweed pioneer in Mr. Francis Patrick McDonough, of Tweed Heads, passed away on Sunday night, aged 73 years. The cause of death was apoplexy. Mr. McDonough was a well-known shipwright at the Heads. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters.

OBITUARY MRS. CATHERINE McDONOUGH MURWILLUMBAH, Tuesday. - The death occurred to-day at Tweed Heads of Mrs. Catherine Marie McDonough (86), relict of the late Francis Patrick McDonough, and a resident of the Tweed districts for more than 60 years. Her husband died some years ago. Deceased had been ailing for some time, but her death occurred suddenly. She was born at Maitland and was married

at Warwick, Queensland, in 1876. About two years later, with her husband, and infant son, she came to the

Tweed River, originally settling at Condong and later at Murwillumbah and Cudgen. About 50 years ago the

family settled at Tweed Heads, which was then in its early stages. The late   Mr. McDonough was noted as a boat builder. A family of two daughters, Mrs. C. A. McCallum, of Lismore, and Mrs. Jack Gow, of North Sydney, and three sons, Messrs. James, Francis and Edward McDonough, Tweed Heads, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive. The funeral will take place this afternjoon at 2.30 o'clock at Tweed Heads.
