Agnes Purves was born in 1802 in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland as the second child of John Purves and Mary Shier. She had two siblings, namely: Francis, and William.

Agnes Purves married Alexander Robertson.

Agnes Purves and Alexander Robertson had the following children:

1. John Robertson was born in 1831 in Coldingham, Berwickshire, Scotland. He married Margaret Maven in 1856 in Berwickshire, Scotland. He died on 26 December 1892 in Eumundi, Queensland, Australia.

2. Mary Robertson was born in Scotland. She died in 1932.
