| A kinship report shows the relationship between a
nominated person and the blood relatives and their spouses. It is a
great way of quickly establishing the relationship between any two people
in the database. |

![]() By typing the "last name, first name" in the search window and pressing return the kinship report will jump to the relevant line. |
| The degree of relationship is a legal term and both
Civil and Canon degrees are shown in this report. A Civil degree
shows the total number of steps between any two individuals, for
example there are two steps from you to your grandparent and then two
steps back down to a first cousin, therefore the degree is four. A Canon degree shows the maximum number of steps to/from the nearest common ancestor. There are two steps from you to your grandparent and also two steps from your first cousin to the same grandparent, therefore the degree is two. In the above illustration we see that Clemens, Nicholas, brother the James has a two degree Civil and a one degree Canon relationship. |
