Summary 6
File transfer is a very powerful process that enables the rapid building of genealogical databases.  We can send and receive GEDCOM files as well as photographs and other objects that greatly enhance the appearance and depth of our family tree.  Exporting is a simple process while importing is just a little more difficult.  Providing that we can be reasonably sure that the data we import is true then the import process is valuable indeed.  Nevertheless we must always be on guard for misleading data: computer processing is great for building a family history but, unfortunately, also great for changing history.

Activity:  If possible, you are encouraged to experience the file transfer process either with a GEDCOM export/import or with the simple transfer of a scanned photograph.  Because a family history is inevitably a personal family matter you most probably would prefer to communicate with a like minded relative; someone with whom you can exchange data.

The next part of the course deals with genealogical reports and book.  [Click here to continue]
