GEDCOM 4: Importing GEDCOM data |
Importing a GEDCOM file into an existing database is, in many ways,
the reverse of the export process. For example, someone has sent a
GEDCOM file as an attachment to an e-mail and the first problem is to
store this attached file in a suitable folder on the local hard disk. We
will not go into the details about storing an attached file, except to say
that by right-clicking on the attached file and using Save As... we can
store the file in a suitable folder from which can be retrieved.

| Fig 6.10 Append/Merge Family File |

- The first step, in FTM, is to select File > Append/Merge Family
File...
- Navigate to the folder and select the GEDCOM file that
will be merged to the database.
- It is important to set the Files of type to GEDCDOM (*.GED)
so that the dialogue window will list the GEDCOM files, without which
the window could be blank or showing different file types.
