File Transfer

We need to look at ways of exporting or importing genealogical data.  Exporting data could mean sending a copy of a photograph, a complete database, or a part of a database (branch of a tree) to another person.  Importing is the reverse of exporting in the sense of receiving data from someone and inserting it into your own database. We will also cover exporting and importing with GEDCOM (Genealogical Data Communications).

But first let's look at the basics of file transfer using a computer, a modem  and a common telephone line. We will do this by simulating the sending of a photograph.
