Scanning 14:  Microsoft Word

The saved text has been opened into Microsoft Word and formatted to a two column layout. Because the text is now in a form that can be edited we have good control over appearance and layout.  At this stage we also need to proof read the text against the original.  OCR is far from perfect and simple errors will get through the process such as a capital "I" being transposed to a figure "1".  The fraction "4 1/4 miles" came out as "41 miles".  We need to be careful with the proof reading stage to avoid changing history.

The next stage is to store the document in the FTM scrapbook by a special process called OLE. [Click here to continue ]
