Scanning 3:  Preview window
The scanner runs and a preview of the photograph appears in the scanner dialogue window with a marquee (dashed line), which usually needs to be adjusted by dragging the edges of the marquee to fit the image, or to select only a specific part of the image.

A few notes about some of the VistaScan32 settings (each scanner will have a unique way of presenting settings):
B/W Photo
: The photograph is a continuous tone, black and white.
Reflective: Light is reflected from the surface of the photograph.
150 dpi: Scan the photograph at 150 dots per inch (about twice the resolution of  a 72 dpi monitor). Good for editing.
100%:  The scan will be kept at the same size as the original photograph. It is possible to enlarge or reduce while scanning.
Marquee: Dashed line around the photograph, it has been arranged to select the whole photograph without including an excessive amount of the background.
Image size: 369 KBs in this scan.  We need to be constantly aware of the image size so that we will not exceed the available resources on our computer.  The file size may be enormous if the dpi setting is increased unnecessarily.
