Tracking the Harts 2
Fig 4.8 Births in the Hart family: Wangaratta
The Pioneer Index Victoria 1833 -1888, lists only one birth in the Hart family in Wangaratta with Richard as the father: Agnes Hart born in 1872.  However, Bridget Young has shown up as the mother to Agnes and may also be the mother to Stephen.  How do we check it out?  Well let's look at the details of the birth registration for Agnes Hart, Reg No 26977.

From the above details we can be reasonably sure that Bridget Young was the mother of Stephen Hart, 14 years.  Note that his elder brother, Richard at 16 years, matches the many references to Stephen and Richard at the time of the Kelly Gang's last stand in Glenrowan in 1880 (See "Ned Kelly: A Short Life" by Ian Jones).   We also see that Richard Hart and Bridget Young married in New South Wales  on 13th October, 1852.  We can now search the on-line NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and see if this can be verified.  [ Click here to continue ]
