Tracking the Harts 1 |
| A case study:
During an earlier part of this course we focused on the birth registration
of Eliza Hart. Well, a family story says that Eliza had a cousin, Stephen
Hart, who was a member of the Kelly Gang. It is common knowledge that Stephen
died, along with Daniel Kelly and Joseph Byrne, in the hotel of Mrs
Jones, Glenrowan (The Glenrowan Inn), on 28th June 1880. The death
registration for Stephen Hart and Daniel Kelly is reproduced below.
Let's track Stephen Hart and see what we can find out about this Hart
family and in the process show a further usefulness of on-line indexes.
From the Pioneer Index we have found the death of Stephen Hart and
purchased a copy of the death registration. The details (hard to
read) are illustrated below. |

Stephen's mother and
perhaps other family

Wangaratta and that he lived all his life in Victoria. Let's
search for all the Harts who were born in Wangaratta during the time
covered by the Pioneer Index Victoria 1836-1888.
