Tracking the Harts 1
A case study:   During an earlier part of this course we focused on the birth registration of Eliza Hart. Well, a family story says that Eliza had a cousin, Stephen Hart, who was a member of the Kelly Gang.  It is common knowledge that Stephen died, along with Daniel Kelly and Joseph Byrne, in the  hotel of Mrs Jones, Glenrowan (The Glenrowan Inn), on 28th June 1880.  The death registration for Stephen Hart and Daniel Kelly is reproduced below.   Let's track Stephen Hart and see what we can find out about this Hart family and in the process show a further usefulness of on-line indexes.  From the Pioneer Index we have found the death of Stephen Hart and purchased a copy of the death registration.  The details (hard to read) are illustrated below.

Where born: Wangaratta, 21 Years in Victoria No record of Stephen's birth on the Pioneer Index.  He was born in 1859.
Married: Not married  
 
Problem: Find the missing details: Stephen's mother and perhaps other family members. Stephen's death registration indicates that he was born in Wangaratta and that he lived all his life in Victoria.  Let's search for all the Harts who were born in Wangaratta during the time covered by the Pioneer Index Victoria 1836-1888.
