Birth Registration 1
Earlier in the course we used the FamilySearch database to find the birth of Clara Rose Ablett and the name of her mother Eliza Hart (1853).  Well let's examine the birth registration for Eliza (not Elizabeth as reported by the FamilySearch database).  From the Pioneer Index we have found that the birth is registration number 67. We have filled out and posted the application form for obtaining a copy of the registration and in due course the document turns up. Part of the certified document is illustrated below.  As with a marriage certificate we can gain valuable information from a birth registration document: Eliza was born on 3 May 1853, Nicholson Street, North Collingwood.  Father: Joseph Hart, Lawyer, Age 37; born Towcester, Northamptonshire, England; married 1836, Towcester.   Issue living and deceased: Emma 16, Mary Ann 13, Joseph 11, Elizabeth 3, 3 boys deceased.  Mother: Ann Hart (Hillier), Aged 37, born Towcester, England.  The informant was Joseph Hart, Father.  The birth was registered 1 August 1853.

Birth register records are often transcriptions from original certificates and we always hope that the scribe has not introduced errors during the transcription process.   As we discussed earlier, the birth-name of Eliza has been the subject of a change to Elizabeth on the FamilySearch IGI.  This transformation is unfortunate as it introduces uncertainty in the genealogical record for the family.

Well, let's follow Eliza for a while as we continue to examine certificates and documents.  Eliza Hart married George Ablett in 1874,  (Pioneer Index, Victoria, 1836-1888, m, 4632), and they had eleven children on their Buffalo River farm, near Myrtleford, North East Victoria.  Clara Rose Ablett was the third child, born in 1879 (Pioneer Index, Victoria, 1836-1888, b, 24778) and it is to her marriage certificate that we go next.
