| OK, we are back at the query or search window. We know when Nicholas and Bridget were married and we have a copy of their marriage certificate. Now let's search for their children who were either born, or, who had died during the period covered by this CD (1836-1888). We need to know about deaths in the family as well as births to complete the record for each life. By entering B or D we are telling Digger to find either births or deaths. It is acceptable to search for births only or deaths only, in which case we would enter B only or D only. We will search for either at the same time. |

Fig 3.4 Births or Deaths ![]() Entering the appropriate criteria is important: 1. The Given Names field is left blank so that we will find all Given Names; 2. In the Event field we enter B or D. Upper or lower case; 3. We have used the asterisk ( *) wildcard character in the Father and the Mother field to cover all the expected spellings of names. If we were to spell out the names then Digger may only find matches to the complete name and miss abbreviations, or miss variants in spelling. As you can see from the Total Matching Records we have found 11 matching records. To see the results we will use the second way of viewing results: the Results List.
