Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888
The first CD-ROM that we will look at is the Pioneer Index, Victoria 1836 -1888. This index, as with all the CDs on the list illustrated below, has been published by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Victoria, Department of Justice, Victoria and produced by Macbeth Genealogical Services in co-operation with Coherent Software Australia.

The index is accessed via software called Digger, which comes with the CD. It must be installed on the computer before accessing the databases. Digger is also a product of Coherent Software Australia.

To illustrate the process of using Digger:

1.  Insert the CD, Pioneer Index in the CD-ROM drive;
2.  Activated the Digger software;
3.  A dialogue window appears listing available databases, and asks Select a  Digger Database.
4. Select the Pioneer Index and click OK.
