| Summary |
| We have introduced some ways of gathering genealogical
data. It is important to develop a technique that you are comfortable with. Paper based systems are great for photo-copying and posting to relatives. It is a cheap process that will bring many valuable pieces of data to your database. On return the sheets of data can be easily stored in a letter file for further use. The Internet is another and perhaps greater possibility, and one that we will return to later in the course. The widely used Family Search database is a rapidly growing resource that will, I hope, bring you many positive results. As with all genealogical data we must constantly be on guard against misleading data. Names can be easily changed when transcribed from one state to another like Eliza becoming Elizabeth. Where possible all data should be verified with certified certificates. |
