A Family Page from Family Tree Maker
The fundamental unit in Family Tree Maker is the family page it is used to store information about people and their family relationships.  A family history is started by filling in the boxes on a blank page and then working back or forward to other generations.  A good place to start is with yourself, your spouse, your children, the parents to you and your spouse, and so on.  The tree just grows as you fill out the pages.

Fig 1.4  A family page
The illustration shows a family page from a Family Tree Maker database.   It includes Nicholas Clemens (1833)(birth-year), his wife Bridget Davis (1848), and four of their twelve children.
What we see is a number of fields that contain data.    FTM allocates a family page for each person entered into the database.  If a person marries, enters into a relationship or has children, then other names will appear on the same family page.  Pages are linked to other family pages depending on relationships. The tabs on the right hand side of the window enable navigation to other related family pages. These tabs are displayed with vertical type.  Therefore, to go to the Parents of Nicholas Clemens one simply clicks on the tab in the top right corner of the illustration that reads "Parents of Nicholas". Try it!  [Click on the tab Parents of Nicholas].
