The true nature of the Angels :: 4th August 2001
I have often wondered why exactly Angels would want to attack humans for no apparent reason, and why Eva portrayed them as being so destructive, especially when they are "messengers from God." The most common and obvious reason is because that God was angered at humans for trying to artificially create and integrate something as sacred as human souls into machines. Also, God could have possibly sent his Angels to retrieve the first Angel, Adam, which was being kept secretly underneath NERV. However, the theory is that whenever another Angel comes in contact with Adam, all human life will be eradicated in the Third Impact.
When I thought about this more, I came to a conclusion that maybe there was something else to this. I reread Revelation and a new theory formed in my mind. Neon Genesis Evangelion was originally shown in 1995/1996 in Japan. I noticed that at that time people were especially paranoid of the Apocalypse and Armageddon. They were convinced that in the year 2000, the world would end. In the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion, this paranoia is echoed as the Second Impact did occur in the year 2000 A.D. Now, when the world ends, it is also going to be the Second Coming of Christ. Second Impact....Second Coming. Anyhow, here's my theory: I believe the Second Impact is another name for the Second Coming of Christ in Eva, and since reading Revelation, I have become pretty convinced. The reason why Angels seem cruel in Eva is because before Christ comes to take his Children to Heaven, havoc will be wreaked onto the Earth. There will be seven Angels who will each pour out seven plagues, and when they are finished, God's wrath is complete. (If you want to read more about this, turn to Revelation 15-16). I think that what happened in the Eva storyline is that God sent down his first Angel (Adam) to begin His wrath, thus resulting in the Second Impact. Half the human population was destroyed, but something called NERV was constructed a year before this. Gendou Ikari had later made the Evangelions, and these creatures interrupted with God's plan as they were such an immoral use of the human soul, which is what separates all humans from every other living creature on Earth. God made man in His own image, and man made Eva in their own image. Thus, aren't man trying to play God? A definite no-no. Man is too imperfect to be God, only God can be God.
After the Second Impact, God wanted continue with his original plan and this meant destroying the Evas, because they were simply not right. So he sent more Angels to finish them off. Each Angel was smarter than the previous, possibly hinting that the smartest Angel had to humans. This then signifies that humans are in a way like fallen Angels, beings that could have enjoyed and prospered in the presence of a loving God, but instead chose freedom, just like Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden. The Third Impact would then be the completion of God's Ultimate Plan, mankind was wiped off the face of the Earth, and only Shinji and Asuka were left (the next Adam and Eve?)
That is my theory. But please don't confuse fact with fiction. The Bible is FACT. Neon Genesis Evangelion is FICTION. It is a great, soul-gripping anime that seeks to explore how mankind deals with situations beyond their control. It has motivated many fans to think more about their life and who they are. But the real truth lies in the Holy Bible. Something like the Second Impact will occur for sure, it will the Second Coming of Christ. But after it, people who have believed and lived by the ways of Christ (like me!) need not fear, for they will live an Eternity in Heaven with the Ultimate Being. You can too, all you need to do is seek the Truth (The Holy Bible).
