Welcome

My name is Heather. I am an (almost) retired registered ex-breeder of the Sacred Cat of Burma. For over 11 years I was dedicated to breeding the beautiful Birman cat aiming for kittens in colours of Seal, Blue, Chocolate and Lilac point and some of the newer Lynx or Tabby points and 'Red Series' - striving for excellence in type but most of all wanting to produce and rear happy, healthy kittens that became loved family pets.

On the whole I am happy that I achieved most of my objectives.

After breeding these beautiful cats for many years, after a health scare I decided I was going to stop breeding .....and disbanded my cat family. With one or two false starts retirement is virtually completed and apart from my two pet tabby point girls I only maintain an interest in one entire girl. I may continue to breed now and then but in a much smaller way. My interest has now turned towards helping support others to achieve similar goals and if you fancy the Sharada Birman family I might be able to point you in the direction of lines containing my cats.

As someone dedicated to this lovely breed and the pursuit of excellence in type and temperament I continue to belong to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, Victoria and Australia and also Sacred Cat of Burma Fanciers Association of Australia Inc. and The Birman Society Inc and am a Life Member of the Birman Cat Club in the UK.

I have been asked to leave my site active on the web for the general information it contains - obviously it has been amended...

I was very fortunate in the acquisition of my first 'lady' who came to me by chance.  She has a lovely pedigree which incorporates top Australian and New Zealand lines and a superb temperament. When adding a new 'lady' or 'gentleman' to the Sharada family care has been taken to follow on with pedigree and temperament.

I have thought deeply about the type of Birman I wish to breed and my aim is to breed cats that conform as much as possible to the breed show standard whilst keeping in mind that the majority of my kittens will become treasured companions to their new owners.

Because of this awareness I aim to produce healthy cats with excellent temperament.  To this end I have selected my foundation breeding stock with care and my emerging lines are based on imported and show winning stock with sweet companionable natures.

In my short career as a breeder my pride and joy is that several people have come back to buy their second and even third Birman from Sharada and I am constantly receiving e-mails and photographs of my 'babies'.

How it started

My first litter in February 2000 included two champions one of which was Db.Gd.Ch. Sharada Shadeso Blue who was owned and shown successfully by Lesley Freeman of Eldorato Birmans and at 5 years of age returned here for two seasons..........A career stud he was retired to his final home at Florencia Birman Cattery in New Zealand where he sired many beautiful kittens and lived out the remainder of his life enjoying a country property retirement. This wonderful boy left us in 2010 - Vale Bluey.

My foundation queen Ch. Kaleerba Serendipity (Sarah) was a "gift" and came to me already in kitten to produce the litter mentioned above. An exceptional starting point for a hobby that has given a lot of pleasure and continues to do so. In her second litter Sarah produced Db.Gr. Ch. Sharada Shes An Angel (Angel) who in her turn, contributed by producing a lovely daughter Ch. Sharada Always An Angel (Little Angel), dam of the fabulous BIS winning choc point boy Gold Ch. Dejavu Hershey (Hershey) who following the passing of his breeder Debbie Raus - in September 2007 - came to live with me and is now enjoying his retirement in a fantastic pet home with his full sister Db.Gr.Ch.Dejavu Lilac Time (Lucy)

Sarah is looking fabulous at 13years of age. She was (in my opinion) actually over-bred and had 8 litters - 4 of them with me. She had big litters - averaging 5 kittens and to my knowledge never lost a kitten and was a great mum.

Her current family came to meet her daughter "Missy" with an aim to adopt her but fell for the very kittenish Sarah and wanted to take her home...I was startled but with little time to think and Sarah's best interests at heart agreed. Sarah has ruled a single cat household being totally spoiled ever since. This started what became a system of honouring breeding girls who were obligated to share their lives in a multi-cat household by rewarding them with their own small household to rule.

Angel followed Sarah’s example and is also enjoying a happy retirement with her new family in Sydney....and this became the method of rewarding all my breeding girls and boys.

Sarah's influence was very strong and she remains the true foundation matriach through various progeny. She is the mum and grand mother of several multi-titled progeny and winning producers and her son from that first litter - Db.Gd.Ch. Sharada Shadeso Blue played a major part in my breeding program and also Eldorato Birmans and Florencia Birmans. Her grand-daughters Gold Gr.Ch. Dejavu Miss Molly, Db.Gr.Ch. Sharada Rainbow Sky and Gold Ch. Sharada Inya Dreams were all leading ladies and this means her influence was felt over several generations and will remain for some time to come.

Photos above - Ch. KALEERBA SERENDIPITY - "Sarah" - aged almost 12 years.

One Birman led to another and in 11 years I had the pleasure of breeding and exhibiting some very fine Birmans from top Imported and Australian Champion lines as they came to share their lives and love with me...:-

Kittens!!! What a joy - to see them born, to enjoy the wonder of the devotion of the mum cats and to play my part in rearing them, watching them develop into handsome adults. I miss having them around but have had the pleasure of placing beautiful babies into wonderful homes and have been delighted when members of the same family came wanting more of my precious babies......as many as 5 going to members of one family. A rewarding experience filled with the richness of new relationships formed, friendships and the chance to play an important part in promoting appreciation of wonderful family oriented cats.

Time out travelling during 2008 I still kept in touch with Australian Breeders and made some new friends in England. If you want to find out more about kittens and kitten care my KITTEN NURSERY SITE has most of the answers. Click here to go to  Sharada Birman Nursery Site

If AFTER READING the web sites you are still unable to find answers to your questions feel free to contact my e-mail address or you may wish to telephone 03 5971 1229 - I am happy to share where I can.
