Associated names are WILLIAMSON, SIMPSON and WEBSTER. We know very little of this name. Ellen (or Helen) LINDSAY was born in Scotland around 1800. Her father was James LINDSAY, but her mother's name is unknown . I suspect her mother's maiden name was SIMPSON, but this is no more than a guess. Ellen married David WEBSTER in 1818 at Abdie, Fife and at Newburgh, Fife. They had four children before David died.
Ellen then married a coal miner, Robert WILLIAMSON at Largo, Fife in 1830, and had three more children. The family migrated to Newcastle, New South Wales in 1841, aboard the Hero of Malown. A fourth child was born in Australia.
The Hero of Malown was chartered by the Australian Agricultural Company to bring out coal miners to work their mines at Newcastle. Also on the ship were James LINDSAY (age 24, with wife and daughter), highly likely to be Ellen's relatives. Other coalminers were David SIMPSON (age 19), and John SIMPSON (age 20, with wife). It is believed that these may also be related to Ellen, as her last child was christened Simpson WILLIAMSON.
Ellen LINDSAY appears in the story of The Coal-Miner from Fife.
