The Hickeys of Honeysuckle

Descendants and relatives of The Hickeys of Honeysuckle, near Wyndham, NSW, Australia at a gathering in Centennial Park, Sydney, NSW on St Patrick's Day 1996

Hickey is an old Irish family name.

HICKEY: Decendants of the ancient family of physicians, O' hIcidhe, anglicized their surname as Hickey or Hickie. From their early homeland in Co. Clare the family spread into the neighbouring counties of Limerick to the south and Tipperary to the east and from there it was dispersed farther afield
(Brian de Breffny, Irish Family Names: Arms, Origins and Localities, Gill & McMillan Ltd, Dublin, 1982, p.114)

A Hickey coat of arms. The lion is gold/orange on royal blue, with black on white at the top of the crest (from de Breffny).

For a flight of fancy on the origins or the HICKEY name, see the legend of The First Hicach

Our HICKEY line comes from Woodford, County Galway, Ireland.  James HICKEY was born there about 1835, to William HICKIE and Mary RYAN.

James married Bridget BESTON in Scarriff in 1862, and the couple migrated to Australia in 1863. Their's is the story of our first HICKEY family in Australia, The HICKEYs of Honeysuckle.
