In a world where most production companies spend their time doing professional corporate events, large concerts, clubs and pubs.. it can be very hard to find people who understand the unusual and special requirements and skills that ameteur community groups need to make a show work.

At PA Matthews Audio we have been catering for the needs of the "unpaid majority" for over 25 years with thousands of "community" jobs under our belt. Our crew know what is needed to pull together a great sound very fast - when soundchecks often don't even exist and performers have a habit of turning up 5 minutes AFTER they were supposed to be on stage!

In these sorts of jobs it's not the gear you're paying for - it's expertise, experience and patience. Many companies "overcharge" on these jobs because they don't want them.. they're too hard and their staff not sufficiently trained to handle them. Others don't care, undercut to get the job and then send their
lowest paid monkeys and oldest gear to turn your job into an embarrassing and frustrating disaster.

and events. We don't do clubs or pubs, we don't do corporate or concerts, and our gear inventory is
specially chosen and prepared for fast setup times and pulling great sound together very quickly. Our gear inventory average age is 5 years - in an industry sector where everyone else uses 20 year old gear because they simply don't care when it stops working.

You should include the following essential information;
  1. ) Proposed exact DATES and LOCATION of your production.
  2. ) Proposed Start and Finish times (both actual and soundcheck).
  3. ) A basic outline on the TYPE of material eg; Rock, Community, Dance, Battle of the Bands, Church / Christian material etc.
  4. ) Number of performers in the LARGEST ACT you intend to present, and the TOTAL Number of ACTS in the show.
  5. ) Size of Audience you expect to cater for, and proposed STAGE arrangements (eg size, type)
How to keep the costs of your quote LOW!

PA Matthews Audio production hire prices are generally NOT determined on the gear you need to do your job but rather they depend on the TIME
taken, the DISTANCE travelled and the NUMBER OF CREW needed to do your job properly. In particular the pricing has alot to do with crew shift
lengths. This means that only minor additions to your show can mean drastic crewing cost increases - or likewise slight changes can drastically lower the price.

If you want to get the best value you can from us for your low budget (or no budget) community show then;

  1. ) Keep the total length of the show (from our arrival to departure, including setup / packup) to less than 8 Hours whenever possible.
  2. ) Costs rapidly "blow out" for shifts exceeding 10 hours (as relief crew are required). Keep shifts to multiples of 8 hours.
  3. ) Show locations more than 45 minutes' travel time from North Richmond (NSW) will incur extra charges.
  4. ) Build intermissions and breaks into your show. Otherwise extra crew are needed to cover meal breaks.
  5. ) For shows where multiple bands appear - use common backline and drumkit wherever possible.
  6. ) For shows over multiple days make arrangements so the gear can remain set up and secure rather than setup / packup each night.
  7. ) Tell us as much as you can, as early as you can, about your show!
