Hollow point bullets

A hollow point bullet's metal jacket does not encase the entire bullet. The point is left exposed, and instead of tapering into a cone it is dimpled. This allows the lead in the bullet to spread up on impact due to the dimpled point. This causes increased amount of damage to soft tissue compared to a normal bullet where the bullet is encased completely in its metal jacket.
