The New South Wales USAR Task Force is classified as a "heavy" team with the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG). Under the INSARAG guidelines, the team is known as "AUS-2" when it deploys internationally ("AUS-1" is the team ID of the Queensland USAR Task Force).

The AUS-2 Task Force has deployed to many national and international disasters to assist the local community and emergency services. These deployments include:

* 2011 – Earthquake, Christchurch
* 2011 - Floods, South-East Queensland
* 2009 – Earthquake and tsunami, Samoa
* 2006 – Earthquake, Indonesia
* 2004 – Earthquake and tsunami, South East Asia
* 1999 - Earthquake, Taiwan
* 1999 – Earthquake, Turkey
