PART 5:
RESCUE

VICTIM TRIAGE

Triage is a process used to categorise patients in order of priority. Triage is a continuous process as a patient's condition may change over time.

Only immediate lifesaving airway and/or haemorrhage management is rendered during Triage.

Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START) principle focuses on a patient's ability:

* Ability to Walk
* Breathing
* Heart Rate
* Level of Consciousness

This assessment classifies patients into the following categories:

Victims who are trapped or partially trapped will take longer to extricate and it is important to be aware of secondary collapse risks due to debris removal. The collapsed zone is an inherently dangerous environment and therefore time spent in this environment should be kept as brief as possible.
