PART 3:
ESTABLISHING THE RESCUE SCENE

QUADRANTS AND LEVELS

The EXTERIOR of the building is divided into SIDES.
The side that faces the street is SIDE 1, SIDE 2 is the left side, and so on.

The INTERIOR of the structure is divided into QUADRANTS. These are identified alphbetically clockwise from the corner that Sides 1 and 2 meet.

An additional quadrant (usually Quadrant E) can be assigned in mulit-storey buildings with central areas such as lift lobby.

This system can be adapted if the building is not a square or rectangular shape, but the side and quadrant names must be identified and commonly used by all emergency services.

Hover the mouse over the image below to see how the work site is divided into quadrants.

Multi-storey floors can be referred to using the same identification that is labelled throughout the building, such as inside lifts, fire stairs or on the fire alarm panel. If this in unclear, use the following rule:
* The floor that is at ground level on Side 1 is called "Ground Floor"
* The levels above run upwards from "Floor 1", "Floor 2" and so on.
* The floors below run downwards from "Basement 1" and so on.

Hover the mouse over the image below to see how to assign floor level ID to the building.
