PART 3:
ESTABLISHING THE RESCUE SCENE

ESTABLISHING CORDONS

Cordons are placed to distinguish work areas from public access areas.

The Operational work zone is the perimeter around the area of operations.

It is generally referred to as a physical barrier to mark the start of the warm zone.
The hazard zone is a physical barrier designed to alert USAR operators of an area of severe hazard that can cause injury or harm to rescuers within the Operational work zone.

For example, a fall hazard from a lift shaft, an overhanging hazard or a wall collapse zone.

It is a designated NO GO zone for ALL staff, including USAR operators.
