PART 2:
PREPARING FOR A USAR OPERATION

LOGISTICS AND PLANNING
Rescue equipment requires logistical control, both prior to an incident, so you know what is available, and during an incident, so you know what is being used and what is required.

Personnel in charge of logistics and equipment need to:

* Constantly gather information of resource and situation status
* Set up communications quickly
* Limit the number of people supervising the logistics area, and make sure they all use the same system
* Maintain an inventory control system:  this could be a simple list on a whiteboard, or a more technical computer based spreadsheet
* Centralise logistics. Have only one logistics area for the entire incident, and for all attending agencies. This helps to prevent duplication of resource requests. All agencies must have a representative with their equipment
* Determine the length of the incident and plan accordingly
