Sygate settings you will need to know

Bottom

I use Sygate PRO 5.5 when it's set up correctly this firewall works well.
I however won’t recommend you use the Sygate free 5.6 firewall, if you have issues with the other free ones or don’t like them you might wish to try this one but you need to know the below.

Sygate how to allow windows updates

right click on “Generic Host Process for Win32 Services” (svchost.exe) go to
advanced… > uncheck “Act as Server” then ok.

To access WindowsUpdate using SPF do like this:
1.uncheck "act as server" @ svchost.exe
2. Create an advanced rule thus:
Right-click SPF icon in system tray -> Advanced Rules -> Add. Name the rule you're about to create. I named it Windows Update.
Click on the GENERAL tab, select your NIC (network card) and select "allow traffic".
Click on HOSTS tab then goto IP Addresses and put there the folowing IPs: 64.4.23.1-64.4.23.255,207.46.157.1-207.46.157.255.
Click on the PORTS AND PROTOCOLS tab: @ PROTOCOL select TCP
@ REMOTE write 443,80
@ TRAFFIC DIRECTION select OUTGOING.
Click on APPLICATIONS tab and check the box GENERIC HOST PROCESS aka svchost.exe.
Now you can access WU with SPF on.

If you have to start and activate Sygate Personal Firewall Pro manually

check in “regedit.exe” that you have the following entry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Name
SmcService
Type
REG_SZ
Date
C:\PROGRA~1\Sygate\SPF\smc.exe -startgui

Note: C:\PROGRA~1\Sygate\SPF\ is the default location when installing Sygate

If you still have a problem try reinstalling Sygate to:
C:\Sygate\SPF\
