Revilo SU Repair and Restoration

Welcome to SU Repair and Restoration.

I have established a business in Australia to provide classic car enthusiasts with a  cost-effective way of breathing new life into their old SU fuel pumps.

Over the years I have owned many cars fitted with SU pumps.  In my younger days I used the "hit it with a hammer" approach to regular maintenance, but in the end the pumps just gave up.  Being a poor apprentice in the UK aircraft industry new pumps were out of my price range, so a bit of emery paper became a familiar part of my toolkit to keep the pumps running.  It is remarkable just how little of the original points can  remain and still work!

As it became obvious that the pumps I was using were many years older than me, I realised that a new approach to maintenance was required.  After serving 20 years in the RAAF as an electronic technician I once more became interested in classic British cars and decided to investigate various methods of replacing the points.

Simply replacing the existing arc suppression components with a transistor seemed to work, but eventually the points acquired a film that prevented them from working.  It seems that although a lot of arcing burns the points out,  a little arcing is essential to keep them clean.  A magnetic switch circuit seemed to be the answer as it replaced the points completely, but was affected by the large lump of metal (the rest of the car) surrounding the pump.

Eventually I came across a circuit designed by a classic car enthusiast in the USA and he generously allowed me to use his design.  If you are interested in having your SU pump returned to it's former glory and converted to this new system then read on.

Cheers
