WRD Conference
Wollongong Radio Doctor is a not for profit co-operative that home visits patients in the evening, night, and all weekends. Because it is not for profit, the Co-operative runs on a very tight budget. We only charge a Medicare fee to come to your home. There is no Government funding for this service, so we have to balance their budget themselves. We are learning to become more entrepreneurial in the way we work.
When the Radio Doctor moved to their new premises in September this year, we custom designed the building to their needs. Part of this building was to incorporate a state of the art conference room, which could be used to train the doctors and other medical staff. There would be days left over that would then be able to be used for other businesses to use the facilities. The conference room is 180 square metres in size. That is a very large room. It can accommodate small groups up to a large gathering of 180 delegates. The seating is very comfortable, it had to be to get the doctors in. The room is fully equipped with laptop, projectors, whiteboards, E-beam (an electronic whiteboard that feeds into the laptop), sound system, VCR, DVD, TV, microphones, and lectern. The equipment is all brand-new and state of the art. Speakers have been located in the ceiling, so that sound is balanced all over the room. This eliminates quiet and loud spots, which can make a conference very frustrating.
The whole room is air-conditioned with its own air-conditioning system. This creates comfort for all the delegates in the room without changing the settings for the rest of the building. There is a large entry foyer where you can set up a welcome stand and advertising signs. This is large enough for people to meet before entering into the conference room. Not only is there plenty of parking on site, but also plenty of on street parking. All the parking area is well lit for those having conferences in the evening. As this complex has only recently been completed, everything inside is brand new. There is nothing stale about this place. The toilet facilities are kept extremely clean. Being part of a medical facility, we are keen to keep the toilets in pristine condition. This is something people often don’t check when hiring a facility and it makes a real difference to those attending. The conference room is extremely quiet. There are no background noises of poker machines or bingo being called. The really good thing about this conference room is that there are no extras, just one extremely low price to hire it out. Remember, all proceeds help to keep the Radio Doctor on the road.
