Diabetes And Psychology - When it comes to diabetes and psychology, the most often diagnosed psychological condition that people with diabetes are believed to have is depression. Thus, in recent years, a great deal of time and money has been spent examining the diabetes and psychology link.
In this regard, a number of major research centers and universities around the world have spent a great deal of time analyzing the diabetes and psychology link. And, as has been mentioned, the most frequently complained of psychological ailment complained of by people with diabetes is depression.
There are a number of reasons that those who study the diabetes and psychology link have given for the increased incidence of depression among diabetic patients.
Any time a person is diagnosed with a chronic disease, the possibility of depression if there. With diabetes, a person has to be proactive and has to deal with the disease on a daily basis. Some other people with a chronic disease can go for extended periods of time without even having to think about let alone deal with the ailment or disease. Such is not the case with most diabetic patients. As mentioned, they have to manage and deal with their disease on a daily bases -- for some patients, a number of times during the day. It is basic human nature that the more often you need to deal with a negative situation, the more apt you are to become depressed.
The diabetes and psychology link can result in a vicious cycle. It is a well proven fact that when a person becomes depressed, any physical health condition is likely to worsen. And, as a physical conditions worsens, a person is likely to become more depressed. And so on and so forth. Hence, the importance of dealing with both the diabetic condition and the depression in a dual diagnosed person.
