Pharmaceutical Company - Since its merger with Warner-Lambert in 2000, Pfizer has been the largest pharmaceutical company in the world. Pfizer was able to retain the title of the largest pharmaceutical company in the world even after Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham merged, creating yet another behemoth pharmaceutical company. In fact, the company that resulted out of the Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline merger - a pharmaceutical company now known as GlaxoSmithKlein - is the second largest pharmaceutical company on the planet.
Industry experts advise that Pfizer maintains a 7% global market share. In point of fact, GlaxoSmithKlein is not too far behind Pfizer as far as the global market share is concerned. GlaxoSmithKlein’s global market share is estimated to be approximately 6.9%.
At the present time, nearly 70% of Pfizer’s sales occur in North America. The North American prescription drug market - the combined market of the United States and Canada - is the largest drug market on the planet at the present time.
While GlaxoSmithKlein trails Pfizer in the North American market, as far as a comparison between the two pharmaceutical company enterprises, GlaxoSmithKlein outpaces Pfizer in every other market around the world.
The global sales of each of the two companies are nearly identical. Pfizer barely inches out GlaxoSmithKlein in terms of sales.
Most industry experts believe that Pfizer actually will pull a bit further ahead of GlaxoSmithKlein in the immediate future. Experts are basing this prediction on the fact that Pfizer has been highly targeting the Japanese market. Industry experts actually believe that the Japanese market will run second only to North America as a lucrative venue for pharmaceutical company operations. GlaxoSmithKlein is focusing on other markets and is not pouring as much time and energy into Japan as is Pfizer.
